Prayer after Benediction of Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament

This short act of praise is prayed after Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and in times of Eucharistic adoration, and often repeated as a favorite aspiration — one of those brief, dart-like prayers the saints urge us to send up to God throughout the day. In a single sentence it gathers up the whole desire of the adoring heart and casts it out across the whole world and the whole of time.

Its genius is its scope. The soul kneeling before one tabernacle asks that the Heart of Jesus be "praised, adored, and loved" not here only and now only, but "at every moment, in all the Tabernacles of the world, even until the end of time." It is a prayer against the great sorrow of the Eucharistic Lord — that He dwells truly present in every Catholic church on earth, and yet is so often left alone, forgotten, and unadored. Where men forget, this prayer would have Him remembered; where He is neglected, it would have Him loved, in every tabernacle at once, without ceasing.

It belongs to the same family of Eucharistic devotion as the Divine Praises and the Act of Reparation to the Sacred Heart: acts of love and amends offered to Our Lord truly present under the sacramental veil. Traditionally enriched with an indulgence, it is a perfect prayer to carry away from Benediction and to breathe again and again before the tabernacle, uniting oneself to the perpetual adoration that the angels and saints give the Lamb before the throne of God.
