The Life

Daniel Oca Presto was born April 7, 1963, in Mangaldan, Pangasinan, in the Diocese of Iba. He studied philosophy and theology at San Carlos Seminary in Makati City and obtained a master's degree in education from De La Salle University in Manila. His episcopal motto is Confido In Misericordia Dei, 'I Trust in the Mercy of God'.

He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Iba on December 1, 1990, by Deogracias Iniguez Jr. He served as parochial vicar of St. Rita Parish, Olongapo City, and St. Michael Parish, Santa Cruz, Zambales, from 1991 to 1992; as president of the Columban Center (Columban College), Olongapo City, from 1993 to 2005; as vicar forane of the St. Joseph Vicariate, director of the St. Augustine School of Iba, and president of the Magsaysay Memorial College of San Narciso from 2005 to 2012; and as parish priest of the Holy Infant Parish, San Antonio, Zambales, from 2012 to 2018, with membership in the presbyteral council and various diocesan commissions. From 2014 to 2018 he was Vicar General of Iba and diocesan administrator of Iba, following the transfer of Florentino Lavarias to San Fernando, Pampanga. That administration was as a priest, before his episcopal appointment, and is not an episcopal tenure.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of San Fernando de La Union on May 9, 2018, succeeding Rodolfo Fontiveros Beltran. He was consecrated on July 30, 2018, by Florentino Lavarias, and installed on August 2, 2018, at St. William the Hermit Cathedral, as the diocese's sixth bishop, with Archbishop Socrates Villegas leading the turnover of miter and crosier.

Appointment of bishop of San Fernando de la Union, Philippines — Holy See Press Office · press.vatican.va · 2018Appointment May 9, 2018; currently diocesan administrator in Iba; born Mangaldan April 7, 1963; San Carlos Seminary; De La Salle master's; ordained December 1, 1990; posts 1991-2018. The bulletin's final sentence conflates the Iba and San Fernando vacancies (Beltran was bishop of San Fernando de La Union, not Iba) and is not copied; the coherent Iba-administration account rests on the Inquirer article and Wikipedia.
