Engelberto Polino Sánchez
Engelberto Polino Sánchez was born on 14 March 1966 at Teuchitlán, Jalisco, matching the roster birth date. He studied the bachillerato, philosophy, and theology at the Seminario Diocesano del Señor San José in Guadalajara from 1985 to 1996, took the diplomado in social pastoral care at ITEPAL in Santa Fe de Bogotá, Colombia, in 1998, and took social-pastoral courses in Santa Fe and further studies at IMDOSOC in Mexico City. He was ordained deacon on 26 May 1996 (CEM curriculum vitae; his diaconal ordainer is reported only in snippets and is not verified) and ordained a priest on 1 June 1997, incardinated in the Archdiocese of Guadalajara (his priestly ordainer is likewise snippet-only and not verified). No motto is stated in the opened bulletins or the CEM curriculum vitae; a motto reported only in a Spanish Wikipedia infobox was never opened and is not cited here.
As a priest he was vicar of San Antonio de Padua in the Colonia Moderna and a member of the Diocesan Social Pastoral Commission from 1 June 1997, diocesan adviser for Pastoral del Trabajo from 1998 to 2010, parish priest of Santa Elena de la Cruz from August 1999, dean of Zapopan Estadio from 2008 to 2010 and substitute dean in 2010-2011, Diocesan Coordinator of Social Pastoral from 2010 to 2017, parish priest of San Bernardo from March 2011, and dean of Dulce Nombre de Jesús in 2017-2018 (CEM curriculum vitae). In the conference he was responsible for the Episcopal Dimension of Pastoral del Trabajo for the triennium 2018-2021 and president of the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral (and Cáritas Mexicana) for the triennia 2021-2024 and 2024-2027; the 2025 bulletin calls him chair of the Social Pastoral Commission. As auxiliary he was in charge of the diocesan Commission for Lay Organisations and the diocesan Commission for Family Pastoral from 2018 to 2025. Studies as a private accountant and his parents and siblings are reported only in snippets and are not asserted here.
Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Vazari Didda and auxiliary bishop of Guadalajara on 2 February 2018, jointly with Juan Manuel Muñoz Curiel (Tucci) and Héctor López Alvarado (Sereddeli), and he was consecrated on 21 April 2018 at the Santuario de los Santos Mártires Mexicanos on the Cerro del Tesoro in San Pedro Tlaquepaque, with Cardinal José Francisco Robles Ortega as principal consecrator (CEM curriculum vitae and the archdiocesan chronicle; the 2025 bulletin likewise says he received episcopal ordination 'the following 21 April'). The English Holy See bulletin file 180203b (3 February 2018) does NOT contain these appointments and must never be cited for them; the appointments are in the Spanish bulletin of 2 February 2018.
Pope Leo XIV appointed him ninth (IX) Bishop of Tepic on 28 August 2025, on acceptance of the resignation of Luis Artemio Flores Calzada, and he took possession on 31 October 2025. The Guadalajara Boletín Eclesiástico of January 2026, in an article by Leonardo Mondragón crediting the Tepic diocesan press office ('Oficina de prensa de la diócesis de Tepic. Les agradecemos la colaboración con este boletín.'), opens 'La mañana del 31 de octubre del 2025...' and records the profession of faith and oath of fidelity in Tepic Cathedral, the reading of the apostolic letters, Cardinal Robles Ortega delivering the cathedra and crosier, and that 'con estos signos, quedó consumado el acto de la toma de posesión,' with Mass following at the Parque Metropolitano. The standalone Tepic original (6 November 2025) was not located or opened, so the dossier describes the source as the Guadalajara reproduction crediting the Tepic press office, not as direct consultation of the Tepic original. His Guadalajara auxiliary tenure closes at the 28 August 2025 appointment, not at the possession; the apostolic letters themselves state that with the appointment his bond with the former see and the auxiliary office ceases ('Así cesa su vínculo con la anterior sede y con el oficio de auxiliar').
