The Life

Gerardo Díaz Vázquez was born on 25 May 1966 at La Angostura, in the Diocese of San Juan de los Lagos. He completed philosophy and theology at the Major Seminary of San Juan de los Lagos and took the licentiate in Pastoral Familiare at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute in Rome; the bulletin governs over a snippet-only claim of the Pontifical Lateran University, which is rejected. He was ordained a priest on 1 May 1993 for San Juan de los Lagos. The bulletin lists his offices as parish vicar and parish priest, Diocesan Adviser for Family Pastoral Care, Prefect and Professor in the Major Seminary of San Juan de los Lagos, Spiritual Father of the Monastery of the Dominican Sisters, Member of the Diocesan Pastoral Council, and Director of the Mutua Assistenziale San Rafael. At the bulletin's date (May 2023) he was President of the Episcopal Commission for Family, Youth, Adolescents, Laity and Life of the Mexican Episcopal Conference; that presidency is time-bound to May 2023 and is not carried forward to 2026. No motto for him was found in any opened source, and no consecrator for his episcopal ordination is established.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Tacámbaro on 22 August 2014, and he received episcopal ordination on 22 October following, according to the 2023 Holy See bulletin. No Tacámbaro diocesan toma de posesión source was found despite targeted Spanish searches, so his Tacámbaro installation is not separately established; the tenure is coded on the consecration date, per the corpus rule for an ordinary consecrated for his see, the same treatment as Urrea Carrillo at Parral, Barraza Beltrán at Torreón, and Valdez Torres at Ensenada. The gap is flagged here and in the reference note, not papered over.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Colima on 13 May 2023, and he took possession on 13 July 2023. The Diocese of Colima page proves the possession Mass by its title, 'Misa de la toma de posesión de Mons. Gerardo,' and its 13 July 2023 post date, but its body is only a YouTube embed, not transcribed; the date stands on the diocesan title and date, and the roster's gloss 'canonical possession' goes slightly beyond what the page body spells out. His Colima possession closes Cardinal Robles Ortega's Colima administrator tenure under canon 418 section 1; the GCatholic 2023 page entry recording Robles Ortega as having 'resigned as Apostolic Administrator of Colima' on the 13 May 2023 appointment day is a different event and must not be cited as the administration's end date.

The Old Mass, See by See
Colima2023-07-13 – presentNo act of his own
What he inheritedNo decree, permission, restriction, celebration, or statement by him concerning the 1962 Missal was found for his Colima tenure through as_of. The Colima possession page's body is only a YouTube embed, so a diocesan decree existing only in a diocesan bulletin, a Facebook post, or chancery material would not have surfaced; no_record here means nothing found in web-searchable opened sources, not a certified negative. The Robles Ortega Guadalajara decree is not his act and is not attributed to him.
Since the SSPX decree of 2 July 2026: No statement recorded as of 2026-10-28.

Tacámbaro2014-10-22 – 2023-07-13No act of his own
What he inheritedNo decree, permission, restriction, celebration, or statement by him concerning the 1962 Missal was found for his Tacámbaro tenure, which covers the whole Traditionis custodes window from 16 July 2021 to the Colima possession. The 21 September 2021 Guadalajara decree is Cardinal Robles Ortega's act for Guadalajara, not his, and is background only. Not checkable in this pass: any Tacámbaro diocesan decree register or chancery material beyond web search; absence here means no record found in searchable opened sources, not proof that no act occurred.
Since the SSPX decree of 2 July 2026: No statement recorded as of 2026-10-28.

Decree implementing Traditionis custodes, 21 September 2021 — Archdiocese of Guadalajara (Boletín Eclesiástico) · 2021BACKGROUND ONLY, parent-opened in batch 8. The decree is signed by Cardinal Robles Ortega for the Archdiocese of Guadalajara. It is not Díaz Vázquez's act: Guadalajara is not Colima (or Tacámbaro), and the Colima administrator role was Robles Ortega's, not his. Cited here only to prevent misattribution.
