The Life

Héctor Mario Pérez Villarreal was born on 20 February 1970 in the City of Monterrey, and was ordained a priest on 9 January 1999 for the archdiocese of Monterrey; the Holy See bulletin, the CEM directorio and Catholic-Hierarchy agree on all three dates, and the roster born date agrees. He began studies as Contador público before entering the archdiocesan seminary in 1992, where he studied philosophy and theology; in 1995 he was sent to the Pontifical University of Mexico City, where he was awarded a licentiate in dogmatic theology, and in 2015 he was awarded a doctorate from the Pontifical Gregorian University, the bulletin stating no field for the doctorate, so none is asserted here. His priestly offices, as the bulletin gives them, were deputy parish priest, coordinator of youth ministry, prefect of discipline and coordinator of studies at the seminary; in 2017-2018 pastor of San Jorge Mártir and zonal episcopal vicar; since 2018 member of the Commission for the health of priests; since 2019 pastor of Nuestra Señora de Fátima and head of the Department of Assets; professor of ecclesiology in the seminary; and chaplain of various communities of nuns. He is diocesan clergy of Monterrey, with no religious congregation and no post-nominal initials. SPELLING: the English Holy See bulletin prints 'Pérez Villareal' (single r); the roster double-r 'Villarreal' governs, and the same bulletin misprints co-appointee 'Raygosa' for Raygoza, the same typo class.

He was appointed auxiliary bishop of México on 25 January 2020, with the titular see of Bennefa, together with Luis Manuel Pérez Raygoza (titular Suava) and Francisco Daniel Rivera Sánchez, M.Sp.S. (titular Aradi), and was consecrated bishop on 19 March 2020; under the auxiliary-start rule the tenure codes from consecration, never from the appointment, and no separate installation followed, none being expected for an auxiliary. He was still auxiliary bishop of México at as_of: he turned 56 on 20 February 2026, and no transfer, resignation, or successor news surfaced. In the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate he was Secretario General for the triennium 2024-2027, confirmed at CEM-primary tier by the Prot. 314/24 comunicado, which names him twice, as CELAM delegate and on the National Basilica of Guadalupe council; whether he held the secretary-general office in the prior triennium is NOT established, so it is never backdated. His secretary-general status in 2025-2026 is independently confirmed by the opened InfoVaticana items, La Voz de la Nación (18 November 2025), and Agenzia Fides (18 September 2026). Conference offices are background only, never tenures and never Traditionis custodes acts. His current México vicariate or pastoral-zone assignment is not established, and his appointment-era Monterrey offices are never carried forward as México assignments.

In His Own Words
The Old Mass, See by See
México2020-03-19 – presentauxiliaryNo act of his own
What he inheritedOpen tenure falling entirely inside the Traditionis custodes window; no governing act of his own concerning the 1962 Missal was found for it through as_of, and no statement of his concerning communion with the Society of St. Pius X after the Holy See's 2 July 2026 schism declaration was found. As an auxiliary he is not the ordinary: any regulation of the 1962 Missal in the Archdiocese of Mexico would be Archbishop Aguiar Retes's act, not his, and CEM collective acts are background only, never his.
Since the SSPX decree of 2 July 2026: No statement recorded as of 2026-10-28.
