The Life

Jesús Omar Aleman Chávez was born on 1 July 1970 in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, the son of José Refugio Aleman Rodriguez and María Teresa Chávez Portillo, and the fifth of seven siblings. He entered the minor seminary of Ciudad Juárez in 1986, the missionary seminary of Tarahumara in 1989, studied philosophy at the Santa María Reina seminary in Torreón in 1990, spent a pastoral year in 1992 at the parish of San Rafael Arcángel, Estación San Rafael, and studied theology from 1993 to 1997 at the Regional Seminary of the North in Chihuahua, finishing at the Monterrey seminary.

He was ordained a priest on 7 October 1997 by Bishop José Luis Dibildox Martínez of Tarahumara and Bishop Juan Guillermo López Soto of Cuauhtémoc-Madera, and was incardinated for Tarahumara. As a priest he served as vice-rector of the missionary seminary of San José in Tarahumara; in 2000 as parish priest of Cristo Rey, Creel, and diocesan coordinator of youth pastoral care; in 2005 as vicar general of Tarahumara; in 2007 as parish administrator of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, Batopilas, before moving to the Diocese of Zamora, to the Santuario del Santo Cristo Milagroso, Tanhuato, Michoacán; and from 2014 to 2022 as parish priest of Santa Inés de Chínipas and diocesan coordinator of catechesis. In 2011 he took a licentiate in Education Sciences, with a specialization in catechetics, at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome.

Pope Francis appointed him the second Bishop of Cuauhtémoc-Madera on 7 December 2022, succeeding Juan Guillermo López Soto, who had died on 8 September 2021. He was consecrated bishop on 4 March 2023 in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc by Archbishop Joséph Spiteri, Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico, with Archbishop Constancio Miranda Weckmann of Chihuahua and Bishop Juan Manuel González Sandoval of Tarahumara as co-consecrators. The roster gives 4 March 2023 as his possession; the diocesan page records the consecration in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc that day but does not use the word possession.
