The Life

José Francisco González González was born on 17 March 1966 in Yahualica, in the diocese of San Juan de los Lagos, and was ordained a priest for Guadalajara on 4 June 1995. He took a licentiate in canon law at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (Santa Croce) and a licentiate in biblical theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University, in Rome from 1995 to 2000. On 14 February 2008 he was elected titular bishop of Feradi Maius and auxiliary bishop of Guadalajara, and he was ordained bishop on 10 April 2008, so the Guadalajara tenure codes from consecration. On 13 December 2013 he was appointed Bishop of Campeche, and he took possession on 12 February 2014 as the fourteenth Bishop of Campeche; his predecessor was Ramón Castro Castro, and his successor is José Alberto González Juárez. On 26 February 2025 he was appointed metropolitan archbishop of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, and he took possession on 25 April 2025, the possession Eucharist at 17:00 in the Seminario Mayor Santa María de Guadalupe. Tuxtla Gutiérrez had been vacant since Fabio Martínez Castilla died in November 2023, administered meanwhile by Rodrigo Aguilar Martínez, Bishop of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, until 25 April 2025. He was still Archbishop of Tuxtla Gutiérrez at as_of, having turned 60 on 17 March 2026.

During his first official act he toured Tuxtla Gutiérrez in the popemobile used by Francis during the 2016 Chiapas visit, days after Francis's death on 21 April 2025; after criticism of the ride as 'triumphalist', he explained at a press conference that the use was coordinated with the reception committee and logistical - the swivel chair made greeting easier, most of the journey was on foot, and the glass shell was uncomfortable in the heat - defended the reverent use of historical objects, and apologized if anyone felt hurt. That is a public act with his own apology, bio prose only, never a controversy; the Spanish original (Milenio, 28 April 2025) was not opened, and the English rendering is paraphrased here, never quoted verbatim in Spanish.

In the CEM he was checked against the Prot. 314/24 comunicado for the triennium 2024-2027 and is NOT listed there, checked-and-absent from that document: a find for 'Campeche' returns nothing, a meaningful absence, since he was Bishop of Campeche in November 2024 and still held no 2024-2027 commission. CURRENCY NOTE: no dated 2026 diocesan-primary anchor was found; currency rests on the Catholic-Hierarchy live listings (data 26 October 2026, naming him Archbishop of Tuxtla Gutiérrez) and the absence of contrary news, and a 2026 diocesan-primary anchor is still owed.

Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, is not San Andrés Tuxtla, Veracruz. The Guadalajara quasi-parish decree for the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter is Robles Ortega's act, never his; the May 2023 Puebla SSPX statement and the LifeSite 'SSPX is schismatic' item are Sánchez Espinosa's, never his; the July 2026 Holy See schism declaration is a Holy See act, not his; and the 'Veni Sancte Spiritus' heraldry page and the nuntiatura.ca coat-of-arms PDF carrying 'Credidimus caritati' belong to other bishops, never to him.

What he inheritedOpen tenure beginning inside the Traditionis custodes window (2025); no governing act of his own concerning the 1962 Missal was found for it through as_of, and no statement of his concerning communion with the Society of St. Pius X after the Holy See's 2 July 2026 schism declaration was found. NO WEAK-DATE FLAG: the pre-event itinerary is mitigated by post-event CH bay0425 'Installed' (spine, parent-opened) + the es.wikipedia possession account. His predecessor at Tuxtla died in 2023, before his arrival; no predecessor TC acts to inherit are established; and no CEM collective act is attributed to him.

What he inheritedTenure spanning most of the Traditionis custodes window (2014-2025); no governing act of his own concerning the 1962 Missal was found for it through the close, and no statement of his concerning communion with the Society of St. Pius X after the Holy See's 2 July 2026 schism declaration was found. POSSESSION TENSION, FLAGGED: the 12 February 2014 possession rests on CH b2014b 'Installed' (spine, parent-opened) + the bulletin 250226a CV date (mislabeled as appointment) + the es.wikipedia possession account (carriers SIPSE / Papantla / campeche.com.mx unopened); stronger than the batch-4 fallback cases, which had NO possession evidence at all, but no diocesan-primary possession report was opened. His predecessor Ramón Castro Castro left Campeche in 2013, before the motu proprio, so there are no predecessor TC acts to inherit; and no CEM collective act is attributed to him.

Holy See bulletin N. 250226a, 26 February 2025 — Holy See Press Office · 2025TIER 1, PARENT-OPENED IN FULL. 'The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José Francisco González González, until now bishop of Campeche, as metropolitan archbishop of Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico.' CV: born in Yahualica, diocese of San Juan de Los Lagos, 17 March 1966; priest 4 June 1995, Guadalajara; licentiate in canon law (Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Santa Croce) + licentiate in biblical theology (Pontifical Gregorian University), Rome 1995-2000; 'on 14 February 2008 he was elected titular bishop of Feradi Maius and auxiliary of Guadalajara, receiving episcopal ordination the following 10 April.' CV LINE FLAGGED AS IMPRECISE: 'On 12 February 2014 he was appointed bishop of Campeche' conflates appointment with possession and contradicts the 13 December 2013 appointment / 12 February 2014 possession sequence carried by the Italian bulletin (via es.wikipedia ref 8), es.wikipedia, and CH b2014b; the line is flagged here and never used to move the appointment date to 12 February 2014. The same bulletin appoints Sáinz Márquez bishop-prelate of Jesús María (batch-11 man) - context only. Parent-opened in full October 2026.

DATE LIMITS: the June 2023 edition predates the February 2025 Tuxtla move; it is the pre-move entry and says nothing about Tuxtla. Entry 34 immediately after is José Leopoldo (then Bishop of Nogales) - clean identity separation in the same source.
