José Hiraís Acosta Beltrán
José Hiraís Acosta Beltrán was born on 22 September 1966 at Pezmatlán, Hidalgo, and studied at the Regional Seminary of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Tula, taking a degree in philosophy from the Pontifical University of Mexico; the birthplace, formation and degree ride on the English Wikipedia tier and are flagged as such, while the CEM directorio confirms the born date, the priestly date and the episcopal date at Tier 1-equivalent. He was ordained deacon on 25 November 1992 by Bishop Juan de Dios Caballero Reyes and priest on 11 June 1993 by the same bishop. His priestly offices were parochial vicar, vice rector of the Minor Seminary, professor and formator of the Major Seminary, and judge of the Ecclesiastical Court of Huejutla, and before his appointment he was prefect of studies and spiritual director of the Major Seminary of Huejutla, defender of the diocesan bond, and a member of the College of Consultants of Huejutla. No CEM commission or dimension office was found for him in any opened source or search, and none is assigned.
He was appointed bishop of Huejutla on 28 January 2016 and consecrated bishop on 14 March 2016, for Huejutla, where he had been a priest; under the first-see rule the tenure codes from consecration, never from the appointment, and no separate installation or toma de posesión was found, confirming the roster note. His consecrators are Wikipedia-attributed only: principal Christophe Pierre, then Nuncio, with Juan de Dios Caballero Reyes and Salvador Rangel Mendoza as co-consecrators, the Wikipedia reference being Catholic-Hierarchy while the Catholic-Hierarchy profile page itself was not opened; the consecration venue is unestablished and the cathedral is not inferred. His predecessor was Salvador Rangel Mendoza, O.F.M. (2009-2015), before whom Salvador Martínez Pérez served (1994-2009) and Juan de Dios Caballero Reyes (1978-1993), who ordained Acosta Beltrán priest in 1993 and co-consecrated him bishop in 2016. The see was vacant in 2015-2016, and no vacancy administrator was established, none being invented here. He was still Bishop of Huejutla in September 2026, on the Fides report and the diocese page's current listing. The diocese was erected on 24 November 1922 as a suffragan of Tulancingo, with its cathedral at St. Augustine, 47 parishes, 557,000 total population and 547,000 Catholics (98.2 percent) as of 2013, and 98 secular priests, under metropolitan Archbishop Domingo Díaz Martínez.
In September 2026, Fr. Román de la Cruz Hernández, parish priest of Santa Cruz in Huejutla, was murdered, and Acosta Beltrán issued a diocesan statement urging the faithful to refrain from speculation so that the competent authorities might investigate, and calling urgently for a thorough investigation and for the crime not to go unpunished; that statement is quoted below. The murder is a crime against his priest, never his controversy. The Santa Cruz parish counts approximately 1,500 inhabitants, the area is marked by clashes between criminal groups vying for control of the illicit fuel trade, and on 14 August 2026 the diocese had raised the alarm after criminals hacked several priests' phones and impersonated them to extort parishioners. The CEM statement in the same Fides article, calling for a thorough investigation, is signed by Ramón Castro Castro, Bishop of Cuernavaca and CEM president, and Héctor M. Pérez Villarreal, and is conference wording, never Acosta Beltrán's, even though his own words say nearly the same thing.
