José Luis Canto Sosa

José Luis Canto Sosa was born on 29 October 1960 in Calkiní, diocese of Campeche, and was ordained a priest on 27 December 1996, incardinated in the same diocese; the Holy See bulletin and GCatholic agree on all three dates, and the roster born date agrees. He obtained a licentiate in special education and later a licentiate in Church history from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. His offices, as the bulletin gives them, were prefect of the minor seminary, teacher in the major seminary, director of a diocesan school, parish vicar, pastor of several parishes, and spiritual director of the Cursillos de Cristiandad and Comunidad Pan de Vida movements; at appointment he was vicar general, parish priest of La Resurrección, and director of the diocesan Interdisciplinary Commission for the Protection of Minors. He is diocesan clergy of Campeche, with no religious congregation and no post-nominal initials. The bulletin calls him 'Bishop' prospectively; he was NOT already a bishop at appointment, so no titular see and no prior episcopal tenure exist.

He was appointed Bishop of San Andrés Tuxtla on 14 August 2021 and was consecrated bishop FOR San Andrés Tuxtla, so the tenure codes from consecration under the first-see rule, roster-exact at 26 October 2021. If 27 October is later ruled to govern, the ROSTER must be corrected first; the dossier follows the roster, never the reverse. No diocesan-primary consecration report surfaced in three worker tiebreak rounds or in the parent's own targeted search, so the conflict stands open. He was still Bishop of San Andrés Tuxtla at as_of: he was 65 at as_of and turns 66 on 29 October 2026, and no transfer, resignation, or successor news surfaced. His predecessor was Fidencio López Plaza (2015-2020, then Querétaro); the see was vacant from September 2020 to October 2021, and no vacancy administrator is established, context only. He was checked against the Prot. 314/24 comunicado for the triennium 2024-2027 and is NOT listed there, checked-and-absent from that document, not no commission ever.
