Juan Pedro Juárez Meléndez
Juan Pedro Juárez Meléndez was born on 26 June 1951 at San Pedro Tlalcuapan, Tlaxcala, and was ordained a priest on 9 August 1975; the CEM directorio, GCatholic and the Spanish Wikipedia agree on all three dates, and the roster born date agrees. The brief's '1956-06-26?' appears nowhere in any source and is discarded. He was a priest of Tlaxcala before Tula, and the diocesan curia address in the CEM directorio is 5 de Mayo No. 5, Col. Centro, 42800 Tula de Allende, Hidalgo. His birthplace carries a variant: the diocesan Wix site gives 'Tlacoapan, Tlax.,' recorded as a variant, not merged, and the fuller GCatholic form, San Pedro Tlalcuapan, governs.
He was appointed bishop of Tula on 12 October 2006 and was consecrated bishop on 26 November 2006, for Tula, where he had been no bishop before; under the first-see rule the tenure codes from consecration, never from the appointment, and no separate installation or toma de posesion was found, confirming the roster note. His Tula predecessors were Jose de Jesus Sahagun de la Parra (1961-1985, then Ciudad Lazaro Cardenas), Jose Trinidad Medel Perez (1986-1993, then Durango), and Octavio Villegas Aguilar (1994-2005, then auxiliary of Morelia); the see was vacant roughly December 2005 to October 2006, and no vacancy administrator was established, none being invented here. The diocese was erected on 27 February 1961 from the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Mexico and the Diocese of Tulancingo, as a suffragan of Mexico, becoming a suffragan of Tulancingo on 25 November 2006, one day before his consecration; its cathedral is the Catedral de San Jose, Tula, and its statistics dated 31 December 2022 are 8,289 square kilometres, 520,100 Catholics (83.2 percent of 625,000), 50 parishes, 89 priests (82 diocesan, 7 religious), 2 deacons, 79 religious and 19 seminarians. He was still Bishop of Tula at as_of: he turned 75 on 26 June 2026, and no resignation acceptance, successor, or retirement is established, so no close is coded.
From 3 July 2024 he administered the vacant Diocese of Atlacomulco concurrently with Tula, after the retirement of Juan Odilon Martinez Garcia, until the possession of Adolfo Miguel Castano Fonseca on 13 April 2026; he never became Bishop of Atlacomulco. Atlacomulco was erected on 3 November 1984, is a suffragan of Toluca from 28 September 2019, and its cathedral is the Catedral de la Divina Providencia. In the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate he was Presidente of the Consejo Juridico Asesor for the triennium 2024-2027, with Mario Medina Balam, auxiliary of Yucatan, as Vicepresidente; conference offices are background only, never tenures and never Traditionis custodes acts. His priestly offices, at Spanish Wikipedia tier only, were spiritual father of the minor seminary, advisor to the Movimiento Juvenil, notary in the diocesan process of the Beatos Martires de Tlaxcala (1977-1978), vice-rector of the Minor Seminary 1978-1983, Rector of the Major Seminary until 1986, member of the Consejo de Consultores and the Consejo para la Formacion Permanente del Clero (1985-2006), Vicar General (1986-2006), and diocesan administrator of Tlaxcala 1989-1991, the last being a pre-episcopal priestly office, background only, never a tenure. His education, also Wikipedia-tier only, was the Seminario Menor y Mayor de Tlaxcala and the Seminario de Nuestra Señora de Ocotlan, with a 1977 licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University; he is described as a canonist. His priestly ordainer, Luis Munive y Escobar, and his episcopal consecrator, Jacinto Guerrero Torres, are Wikipedia-attributed only, and the co-consecrators and the venue of the 26 November 2006 consecration are unestablished and left blank.
The diocesan site also reports a second pastoral visit to the whole diocese and a Plan Diocesano de Pastoral in progress.
