Luis Carlos Lerma Martínez
Luis Carlos Lerma Martínez was born on 21 July 1962 in Delicias, in the State of Chihuahua. He was formed for the priesthood at the Seminary of Chihuahua and took the licentiate in Biblical Theology at the Real y Pontificia Universidad de México. He was ordained a priest on 14 October 1993 for the Archdiocese of Chihuahua. The place of his priestly ordination and his ordaining bishop are not stated in the Holy See bulletin and are not established in the opened sources.
As a priest of Chihuahua he served as parish vicar; as professor and formator in the major seminary; as parish priest of various parishes; as rector of the Cathedral; as diocesan coordinator for the Safeguarding and Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Persons; and, until his appointment as bishop, as Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Chihuahua. All of these offices are as summarized in the Holy See bulletin. A fuller dated biography published by InfoVaticana was not used, because the underlying archdiocesan biography behind it was not opened.
Pope Leo XIV appointed him Bishop of Nuevo Laredo on 7 October 2025. He was ordained bishop and took possession of the see on 14 January 2026, in the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Nuevo Laredo; the Archdiocese of San Antonio's newsletter describes the liturgy as a canonical installation service, preceded by a walk from the Benito Juárez Monument, with Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, Auxiliary Bishop Arturo Cepeda, and Father Ricardo Ramirez taking part, and Bishops James Tamayo of Laredo and Michael Sis of San Angelo also present. His principal consecrator and co-consecrators are not named in the opened sources, and the roster's statement that the liturgy was presided by Nuncio Joseph Spiteri is not confirmed in any opened source; it is not carried here as fact, and no consecrator is inferred from it. He had no prior see. He succeeded the administration of Rogelio Cabrera López, who had governed Nuevo Laredo as apostolic administrator after the departure of Enrique Sánchez Martínez, the previous ordinary, in 2023.
