Mauricio Urrea Carrillo
Mauricio Urrea Carrillo was born on 6 July 1969 in Nogales. He studied philosophy and theology at the seminary of Hermosillo and was ordained a priest on 5 February 2004 in Nogales, in the then metropolitan Archdiocese of Hermosillo. He was incardinated in the new Diocese of Nogales on 19 March 2015, and took a doctorate in philosophy at the Pontifical University of Mexico.
As a priest he served as professor and prefect of the seminary of Hermosillo, as director of the journal Philochristus, edited by the seminary of Hermosillo, and as parish vicar. At his appointment he was chancellor of the diocesan Curia, professor in the seminary, and parish priest of La Purísima Concepción de María in Nogales. The directorship of Philochristus was a priestly office, not an authored book.
Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Parral on 21 November 2020. He was consecrated bishop on 19 March 2021 in the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Parral, by Archbishop Constancio Miranda Weckmann of Chihuahua, with Apostolic Nuncio Franco Coppola and Bishop José Leopoldo González González of Nogales as co-consecrators; that morning he had made his profession of faith and oath of fidelity before Nuncio Coppola in the patriarchal church of Saint Joséph. The 19 March date recurs in his record: his Nogales incardination was 19 March 2015 and his consecration 19 March 2021. No separate installation date has been established; the tenure runs from his consecration, the first-see rule.
