The Life

Medil Sacay Aseo was born on June 27, 1954, in Kapalong, Davao del Norte. The roster and Wikipedia give June 27; the Claretian directory, the roster's own source, gives June 28, 1954, in Maniki, Kapalong, and that variant is flagged in the reference note. On names, the roster's 'Medil Sacay Aseo' governs: Wikipedia's title and body say 'Medel S. Aseo', but its own Tagum ordinaries list says 'Medil Sacay Aseo'. He studied philosophy at St. Francis Xavier College Seminary in Davao City and theology at St. Francis Xavier Regional Major Seminary there, then undertook postgraduate studies at the Loyola School of Theology at the Ateneo de Manila University from 1988 to 1991, specializing in family ministry. He was ordained a priest in April 1979 for the Diocese of Tagum; the Claretian directory gives April 4 and Wikipedia gives April 7, so the dossier gives April 1979 only and flags the conflict. His posts, with years, rest on Wikipedia alone and are flagged as such, except for the Greensburg stint, which the Catholic Accent confirms: parochial vicar at Sto. Niño Parish in Panabo from 1979 to 1980; parish priest in Manay and then in Cateel, both in Davao Oriental, from 1980 to 1983; vice-rector and procurator at the College Seminary of Tagum from 1983 to 1985; parish priest in Maragusan, Davao del Norte, from 1986 to 1988; parish priest in Panabo and diocesan director of the Apostolate for the Family from 1991; vicar forane and member of the College of Consultors until 1996; chaplain for Filipino seafarers in the Archdiocese of Liverpool from 2003 to 2006; parish priest of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish in Nabunturan from 2006 to 2007; member of the Galilee Center for Priests in Tagaytay City from 2008 to 2015; vice-administrator of St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Tagum City in 2016; and missionary priest in the Diocese of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, in 2017, where he served as parochial vicar at St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Kittanning and St. Mary, Mother of God Parish in Yatesboro, in the International Priests Program.

On April 7, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Tagum, following the resignation of Wilfredo Manlapaz; the Catholic Accent confirms the April 2018 appointment came by a letter from the Papal Nuncio, brought to the Greensburg pastoral center while Aseo was serving there. Bishop Edward Malesic of Greensburg saw that the newly announced bishop-elect immediately had a zucchetto and a pectoral cross, the cross retrieved by Bishop Larry Kulick from Bishop Bosco's archives, a cross given by Pope St. John Paul II. He was ordained a bishop and installed on June 20, 2018, at Christ the King Cathedral in Tagum City, matching the roster row; the Claretian directory confirms the June 20 installation date. Wikipedia, citing CBCP News of June 21, 2018, names Romulo Valles as principal consecrator, but that piece was not recovered, cbcpnews.net being domain-blocked for text fetch, so no principal is named. Manlapaz, born April 7, 1941, in Paracale, Camarines Norte, ordained a priest December 6, 1964, appointed titular Bishop of Tanudaia and auxiliary Bishop of Maasin December 22, 1980, ordained a bishop February 7, 1981, appointed Bishop of Tagum January 31, 1986, and installed March 20, 1986, served as apostolic administrator from April 7, 2018, and retired June 20, 2018; Aseo is the fourth bishop of Tagum. The diocese, created as a prelature January 13, 1962, erected April 5, 1962, and elevated to a diocese October 11, 1980, with Christ the King as titular, counts a population of 1,723,916, with 1,342,859 Catholics, 29 parishes, 14 quasi-parishes, and 2,225 GKKs or BECs. His motto 'Gaudium in Obedientia' is Wikipedia-only and is not shipped.

In the window, no governing act of his own concerning the 1962 Missal was found. His window record is a missionary return visit and a digital initiative, neither a governing act on the old Missal: in August 2023 he returned to the Diocese of Greensburg, celebrating Mass in his former parishes, with an International Food Festival on August 26, 2023, at Christ Our Shepherd Center in Greensburg raising funds for priestly formation in Tagum; and during Paghandum 2026 he led the official launch of the Diocese of Tagum Mobile App on October 18, 2026, with Fr. Joben L. Planteras, director of the diocesan social communications ministry, and Fr. Freddie 'Rex' Barte, pastoral director. Every quotation in the Accent's Greensburg piece is Bishop Kulick's, not Aseo's, and no direct quotation of Aseo appears in the app-launch piece, so his quotations list is empty.

Major Works & Initiatives
Return visit to the Diocese of Greensburg and International Food Festival, August 2023
After his episcopal ordination, Aseo had been invited back to Greensburg, where he served in the International Priests Program; the pandemic stalled the visit until August 2023, when he celebrated Mass in his former parishes and an International Food Festival on August 26, 2023, at Christ Our Shepherd Center in Greensburg raised funds for priestly formation in Tagum. A pastoral visit, not a Traditionis custodes act.
Official launch of the Diocese of Tagum Mobile App, Paghandum 2026, October 18, 2026
Aseo led the launch of the diocesan mobile app, giving the faithful access to diocesan announcements, updates, events, and services, together with the social communications director and the pastoral director. A communications initiative, not a Traditionis custodes act.

Diocese of Tagum — Claretian Communications Foundation · 2026Undated directory page, accessed October 2026; roster source. Medil Sacay Aseo: born June 28, 1954, in Maniki, Kapalong, Davao del Norte; ordained priest April 4, 1979; appointed Bishop of Tagum April 7, 2018; installed June 20, 2018. Manlapaz chain and diocese statistics as given in the bio. Flags: the dossier follows the roster's June 27, 1954, for the birth day, with the directory's June 28 flagged as a variant, and gives April 1979 only for the priesthood, the directory's April 4 against Wikipedia's April 7. Dossier-only from_source swap from the roster Wikipedia URL; the roster is untouched.

Medel Aseo — Wikipedia · 2026Tier-3: roster from_source. Title and body say 'Medel S. Aseo', but the page's own Tagum ordinaries list says 'Medil Sacay Aseo'; the roster spelling governs. Born June 27, 1954, Kapalong; priesthood April 7, 1979; appointment April 7, 2018; ordination and installation June 20, 2018, Christ the King Cathedral, Tagum City; seminary post sequence with years. Flags: the priesthood day April 7 against the Claretian directory's April 4, so the dossier gives April 1979 only; the principal consecrator Valles rests here citing CBCP News of June 21, 2018, which was not recovered, so no principal is named; the motto 'Gaudium in Obedientia' rests only here and is not shipped.
