The Life

Pedro Sergio de Jesús Mena Díaz was born on 4 March 1955 in Colonia Yucatán, comisaría de Tizimín, Yucatán, the fifth of five children of Pedro Mena Rodríguez and Josefina Díaz, both deceased. He took an architecture degree at the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán in 1979 before entering the seminary, studying at the Seminario Conciliar in Mérida with one year in Puebla, and he was ordained a priest on 7 October 1986 by Manuel Castro Ruiz, Third Archbishop of Yucatán, in the Mérida Cathedral. As a priest he was parish vicar of San Pedro Apóstol, Panabá; held seminary posts from 1989 to 1997; chaplain of Mater Dolorosa, Mérida, from 5 January 1990; administrator of San Pedro y San Pablo, Sotuta, from 10 October 1996; rector of Villa de Guadalupe from 1 July 1997; diocesan coordinator of Pastoral Vocacional from July 1997 to July 2012; administrator of San Francisco de Asís, Mérida, from 2 February 2001; rector of the Sagrada Familia chapel from 14 June 2001; coordinator of the diocesan team for relations with INAH from 2 February 2002; responsable único for catalogued historic works under archdiocesan custody from 11 January 2011; parish priest of San Francisco de Asís, Conkal, from 31 August 2012; dean of Decanato 6 from 26 March 2013; parish priest of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, San Cristóbal, Mérida, from 1 November 2014, and delegate for confirmations there from 25 July 2015; Vicario Episcopal para el Clero from 15 August 2015; and coordinator of the Diocesan Commission for Sacred Art from 2004 to 2016. He was also executive secretary of the CEM Vocaciones commission; the archdiocese biography dates the role 2007-2013 and the bulletin 2006-2012, and the dossier states the role without dates.

On 27 May 2017 he was appointed auxiliary bishop of Yucatán, titular bishop of Zuglio, and he was consecrated bishop on 18 July 2017; his consecrator and the consecration venue are not established, and neither is inferred, and neither his ordinary Gustavo Rodríguez Vega nor the emeritus Emilio Carlos Berlie Belaunzarán is inferred as consecrator. In the CEM he was President of the Comisión Episcopal para Vocaciones y Ministerios in the June 2023 directorio and suplente for the Yucatán province on the Permanent Council in the same directorio; he holds no 2024-2027 CEM commission (checked-and-absent), and the June 2023 suplente label is not carried forward, since Prot. 314/24 contains no Permanent Council section. He co-signed the archdiocese's 9 November 2023 notification on the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X; that notification is the ordinary's act, and his co-signature is recorded in his Traditionis custodes inherited prose, not as a governing act of his own. He was still auxiliary bishop of Yucatán at as_of, aged 71.

The stale English Wikipedia 'Bishop of Yucatán' article, which lists only Palma Capetillo, is outdated and is not cited for him.

What he inheritedCo-signed the archdiocese's 9 November 2023 notification on the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X; the notification itself is the ordinary's act - it warned the faithful that the Fraternity is not in communion with Pope Francis while stating that Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter priests had visited with authorization and that diocesan priests had been facultated to celebrate the Tridentine rite for interested Catholics. No governing act of his own on the 1962 Missal was found from 16 July 2021 to present.
Since the SSPX decree of 2 July 2026: No statement recorded as of 2026-10-28.
