The Life

Salvador González Morales was born in Mexico City on 20 December 1971, the second of three children of Salvador González and María de Lourdes Morales. He studied food engineering at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional from 1989 to 1993, then entered the seminary, taking Philosophy in 1997 and Theology in 2001 at the Pontifical University of Mexico, a licentiate in Systematic Philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome from 2002 to 2004, and a further licentiate at the Higher Institute of Ecclesiastical Studies in 2005. He was ordained a deacon on 16 June 2001 and a priest on 18 May 2002, both at the Basilica of Guadalupe, by Norberto Rivera Carrera. As a priest he was general secretary of the Higher Institute of Ecclesiastical Studies from 2004 to 2007, prefect of discipline at the Conciliar Seminary of Mexico from 2004 to 2007, vice-rector of the same seminary from 2007 to 2011, choir chaplain at the Basilica of Guadalupe from 2011 to 2014, parish vicar of San Bernardino de Siena, Xochimilco, from August 2014 to January 2016, then parish administrator there, then parish priest in solidum from August 2018, head of the Second Deanery from 2017, coordinator of the bachelor's degree in Theology and Guadalupan Culture at the Pontifical University of Mexico from 2012 to 2014, and coordinator of the master's degree in Philosophy at Lumen Gentium University from 2014 to 2016, remaining a professor of Philosophy there.

On 16 February 2019 he was appointed titular bishop of Lacubaza and auxiliary bishop of México, and he was consecrated bishop on 25 March 2019; his consecrators and the consecration venue are not established, and neither is inferred. As auxiliary he was vicar general and moderator of the Curia of the Archdiocese of México. In the CEM he was suplente for the México province on the Permanent Council in the June 2023 directorio; for the triennium 2024-2027 he is Responsable of the Dimensión Episcopal de Residencias de la UPM within the Comisión Episcopal para Vocaciones y Ministerios, the same responsibility restated in the UPM Commission membership list, not a second office. On 6 December 2025 Leo XIV accepted the resignation of Pedro Pablo Elizondo Cárdenas and appointed González Morales Bishop of Cancún-Chetumal, and he took canonical possession on 27 February 2026 at the Centro de Convenciones de Cancún, with a welcome at the Sagrada Familia church and a procession to the Cancún Cathedral, the Letras Apostólicas read and the pastoral staff delivered, in the presence of Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes and Nuncio Joseph Spiteri, as the second Bishop of Cancún-Chetumal; Jorge Bernal Vargas was prelate, not bishop, and is not counted toward that number. On 20 March 2026 he addressed a message to the diocese on the recognition of 4 December as the State Day of Religious Freedom in Quintana Roo. He was still Bishop of Cancún-Chetumal at as_of, aged 54, turning 55 on 20 December 2026.

His episcopal motto is held, not asserted: the diocesan-paper shield article that would confirm it was not opened, and press reporting of the shield alone does not meet the corpus motto rule.

What he inheritedNo governing act of his own on the 1962 Missal was found from 27 February 2026 to present. Predecessor Elizondo Cárdenas's acts are not his; conference-collective acts are never his. His own 14 July 2026 comunicado on the FSSPX presence is coded in sspx_2026, not as a posture act, because it concerns communion with the Society after the Holy See's 2 July 2026 decree, not regulation of the 1962 Missal.
Since the SSPX decree of 2 July 2026: In a 14 July 2026 comunicado on the FSSPX presence in the diocese, he exhorted communion with Pope Leo XIV, described the 1 July 2026 episcopal consecrations without a pontifical mandate as schism, and warned that FSSPX sacraments are illicit and FSSPX confessions and marriages invalid, exhorting the faithful not to attend FSSPX activities. ↗
