The Life

Severo Cagatan Caermare was born on October 22, 1969, in Poblacion, Sibutad, Zamboanga del Norte; Vatican Radio and the roster agree on the date and place. He studied philosophy at Cor Jesu Seminary and St. Vincent College in Dipolog, and theology at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary in Cagayan de Oro, earning a Master's in Theology and Pastoral Ministry. He was ordained a priest on April 22, 1996; Vatican Radio governs the day, and Wikipedia's body agrees on April 22 at Saint Anne Parish in Sibutad, citing a now-dead-link La Salle Ozamiz profile, while its infobox gives the wrong day, April 12, 1996. The ordaining bishop, Jose Manguiran, is infobox-only and is not named. His priestly posts, in Vatican Radio's broad strokes, with Wikipedia's finer split flagged: administrator of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Parish, Godod, from 1996 to 1997; trainer at Cor Jesu Seminary from 1997 to 2002, which Wikipedia splits into formator, professor, vocation director, procurator, spiritual director, and diocesan liturgist from 1997 to 2000; administrator of St. Isidore Parish, Gutalac, from 2002 to 2003; trainer at St. Mary's Theologate Seminary, Ozamiz City, from 2003 to 2004; rector, liturgist, and professor at Cor Jesu from 2004 to 2006; trainer, professor, and dean of studies at St. Mary's from 2006 to 2007; rector and professor at St. Mary's from 2007 to 2013, a range Vatican Radio misprints a second time as 2003-2004, which is not repeated; at San Antonio de Padua Parish, Gulayon, from 2013; and rector of Dipolog Cathedral of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary from May 1, 2014.

On July 25, 2014, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Dipolog, accepting the resignation of Jose R. Manguiran under canon 401 section 1; he is the third bishop of Dipolog. He was consecrated on October 30, 2014, matching the roster row; the consecration's principals and venue, Pinto, Cabantan, and Manguiran at Dipolog Cathedral, are Wikipedia-body-only, citing a Vatican Radio piece that predates the ordination and cannot confirm consecrators, so no principals are named. Manguiran, appointed May 27, 1987, retired July 25, 2014; the sede vacante ran July 26 to October 29, 2014, with Manguiran as diocesan administrator, per the Dipolog ordinaries table. Caermare is the first bishop ordained from the Diocese of Dipolog itself. His motto, 'Benedicam dominum semper', is Wikipedia-only and is not shipped. After the death of Iligan bishop Elenito Galido on December 5, 2017, at age 64 of cirrhosis in an Iligan City hospital, Caermare was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Iligan, overseeing the diocese, in the CBCP website's words, 'until Pope Francis elects a new bishop'; he administered Iligan concurrently with Dipolog until Rapadas's installation on September 5, 2019. The administrator from-date, December 6, 2017, rests on a Philippine News Agency snippet, the Wikipedia body, and the Iligan ordinaries table's December 6 vacancy start, not on an opened page, and is flagged as such. He assumed the two-year chairmanship of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity on December 15, 2023, succeeding the late Enrique Macaraeg of Tarlac; that role rests on Wikipedia citing CBCP News and is bio context, not a diocesan act.

In the window, no governing act of his own concerning the 1962 Missal was found. His window record is a canonization-cause anniversary, not liturgical governance: in February 2026 he presided at the Mass marking the 378th anniversary of the martyrdom of Fr. Francesco Palliola, S.J., killed January 29, 1648, at age 35, in Jose Dalman, concelebrated by Jesuit priests from Zamboanga and Cagayan de Oro and diocesan clergy, at which the diocese announced progress on the Positio Historica, the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints having completed its review, with six historians, five affirmative and one affirmative ad mentem, no negative or suspensive vote, postulator Fr. Pascual Cebollada and diocesan postulator Fr. Patrick Dalangin, documentation begun in 2017 and validated in 2018. The piece carries no quotation of Caermare, so his quotations list is empty.

Pope appoints new bishops for Philippines — Vatican Radio · 2014Published July 25, 2014: Caermare appointment, Manguiran resignation accepted under canon 401 section 1; born October 22, 1969, Poblacion, Sibutad, Zamboanga del Norte; philosophy Cor Jesu Seminary and St. Vincent College, Dipolog; theology St. John Vianney Theological Seminary, Cagayan de Oro; Master's in Theology and Pastoral Ministry; priesthood April 22, 1996; posts as given in the bio. Flags: the piece prints a typo, 'It 'was ordained a priest', not copied; it repeats 'Rector and professor at St. Mary's Theologate (2003-2004)' a second time, a misprint for the 2007-2013 range, not copied; its appointment paragraph says 'Director of the Saint Anthony parish' against the post list's Gulayon, San Antonio de Padua, not treated as a conflict.

New administrator of Iligan diocese named — Manila Bulletin via FreeLibrary · 2017Published December 9, 2017: Caermare appointed Apostolic Administrator of Iligan, replacing Galido, who died December 5, 2017, at age 64 of cirrhosis in an Iligan City hospital; CBCP website: he oversees 'until Pope Francis elects a new bishop'. The piece gives NO appointment day: the December 6, 2017 from-date rests on a Philippine News Agency snippet whose URL was not recovered, the Wikipedia body, and the Iligan ordinaries table's December 6 vacancy start, and is flagged as such in the bio.

Cited with the Vatican News credit noted; the piece gives no Mass day beyond the January 29 anniversary, so the dossier dates the work to February 2026 without pinning a Mass day.

Severo Caermare — Wikipedia · 2026Tier-3: administrator tenure from_source, the source that states the December 6, 2017 appointment day explicitly. Born October 22, 1969, Sibutad; priesthood April 22, 1996, at Saint Anne Parish, Sibutad, in the body, citing a dead-link La Salle Ozamiz profile; consecration October 30, 2014; Iligan administrator December 6, 2017, to September 5, 2019; ECLA chairmanship from December 15, 2023, succeeding Macaraeg, citing CBCP News; first bishop from the diocese where ordained; Dipolog ordinaries table, Manguiran May 27, 1987, to July 25, 2014, sede vacante July 26 to October 29, 2014. Flags: the infobox 'Installed 25 July 2014' is the appointment day and is not followed; the infobox priesthood '12 April 1996' is wrong against Vatican Radio's April 22; the ordaining bishop Manguiran, the consecration principals Pinto, Cabantan, and Manguiran, the venue, and the motto 'Benedicam dominum semper' rest only here and are not shipped; the Sulat Pamahayag January 14, 2024, and its 20-word line rest here on Rappler, domain-blocked, and CNN Philippines, URL unrecovered, and the work stays out entirely, the Wikipedia-quoted line never shipping from Wikipedia.
