The Life

Tomas Gonzalez Gonzalez was born on August 23, 1968, in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico, the son of Tomas Gonzalez Perez and Blanca O. Gonzalez Santiago. He was educated at the Colegio Santa Maria de los Angeles in San Juan and the Colegio Nuestra Senora de Belen in Guaynabo, finishing school in 1986, and then studied business administration at the University of Puerto Rico in Bayamon, graduating in 1991. He worked for American Eagle from 1992 to 1994 before turning toward the priesthood at twenty-six.

He entered the Seminario Mayor Regional de San Juan in 1994 and, after studies at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Puerto Rico, earned a licentiate in theology. Ordained a deacon in December 2000 and a priest on August 6, 2001, at the Cathedral of San Juan, by Archbishop Roberto Gonzalez Nieves. His priestly ministry was parish and institutional: parochial vicar and then pastor of San Lucas Evangelista, chaplain of the Recinto de Ciencias Medicas from 2001 to 2017, spiritual director of the Cursillos de Cristiandad movement, and pastor of Santa Luisa de Marillac from 2020 to 2023.

Alongside parish work he carried diocesan responsibility, serving as episcopal vicar of the Rio Piedras-Trujillo Alto vicariate from 2016 to 2022 and then as vicar general and moderator of the curia from 2022 to 2023. Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Enera and auxiliary bishop of San Juan de Puerto Rico on September 8, 2023, and Archbishop Gonzalez Nieves consecrated him on November 18, 2023, at Santa Teresita Church in Santurce. His episcopal motto is Y guiame por el camino eterno, Guide me on the eternal path.

San Juan de Puerto Rico2023-11-18 – presentauxiliaryNo act of his own
What he inheritedNo governing act of Gonzalez's own on the 1962 Missal was found after Spanish-language targeted searching (see tradition). The acts of the ordinary of San Juan, Archbishop Roberto Gonzalez Nieves until August 2026 and then Archbishop Eusebio Ramos Morales, are not this auxiliary's acts and are not inherited here. No 1962-Missal site list for San Juan was found, so no site count is asserted.

Domus Dei’s Verdict
The Bishop & the Mass of Ages
No governing act found

No governing act of Bishop Gonzalez's own on the 1962 Missal was found. Spanish-language searches of his name with misa tradicional, misa en latin, Traditionis Custodes, and the 1962 Missal, together with searches of the Archdiocese of San Juan's provision for the older Mass, returned no decree, authorization, dispensation request, or appointment sustaining the older Mass by him, and no statement of his on the subject. His documented episcopal presence since 2023 is in synodal and diocesan gatherings, not in liturgical regulation.

The acts of the ordinary of San Juan are not his acts, and none has been attributed to him here. During most of his auxiliary tenure the ordinary was Archbishop Roberto Gonzalez Nieves, and since August 6, 2026, the metropolitan archbishop has been Eusebio Ramos Morales, with Gonzalez continuing as auxiliary. No Traditionis Custodes implementation act by either ordinary was found in the searches for this dossier, and in any case such an act would belong to the ordinary's dossier, not to this auxiliary's posture.

No site count is asserted. No list of 1962-Missal sites in the Archdiocese of San Juan was found, and no San Juan parish listing naming the 1962 Missal was evidenced, so sites before and now are both null rather than guessed. No traditional society, no Roman dispensation, and no 2026 statement on the Society of St. Pius X was evidenced for him.
