The Life

Valentin Cabbigat Dimoc was born on February 14, 1969; the CBCP profile gives his birth as 02-14-69, his priesthood as 05-19-98, and his episcopate as 08-04-15. He was born in Lagawe, Ifugao, on Valentine's Day, hence Valentin, and is a native of the Tuwali tribe. He studied philosophy and theology at the Immaculate Conception School of Theology in Vigan City and holds a master's degree in development management from the Asian Institute of Management in Makati City. The birthplace, tribe, and formation details rest on Wikipedia alone and are flagged as such; the CBCP profile confirms only the dates. He was ordained a priest on May 19, 1998.

As a priest he served as rector of the Holy Rosary Mission, Kayan; the Holy Family Mission, Hapao; the St. Mary Magdalene Mission, Lagawe; and the Good Shepherd Mission, Hapid; and as director of the Kataguan Centre, Lagawe, and of the Centre for Social Action and Development of the vicariate. Those postings rest on Wikipedia alone and are flagged as such. He is chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Indigenous Peoples, a chairmanship confirmed by the opened 2022 and 2025 pieces below. He resides at the Teng-ab Pastoral Complex, Teng-ab, Bontoc, in Mountain Province.

Pope Francis appointed him Vicar-Apostolic of Bontoc-Lagawe on May 6, 2015, and he was consecrated on August 4, 2015, the consecration basis the roster carries and the correct basis on the first-see rule, since he was a priest when appointed. He succeeded Rodolfo Fontiveros Beltran, who had been appointed Bishop of San Fernando de La Union; the succession rests on Wikipedia alone and is flagged as such, and no vacancy length is claimed. The consecrator, titular see, and consecration venue are not established on an opened source and are not stated in the dossier.

Major Works & Initiatives
Indigenous Peoples' Sunday address, Upper Sirib, Davao City, October 9, 2022
At the national celebration of the 45th Indigenous Peoples' Sunday at Upper Sirib, in the Calinan district of Davao City, Dimoc, as chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Indigenous Peoples, called on the government to pay more attention to legitimate ancestral land claims by indigenous peoples, noting that many groups still lack their certificate of ancestral domain title and sometimes have no National Commission on Indigenous Peoples to help them. The Mass at the celebration was presided over by Archbishop Romulo Valles of Davao, not by Dimoc. A pastoral address, not a Traditionis custodes act.
Redemptorist mission inauguration, Our Lady of Visitation Parish, July 2, 2023
Dimoc presided at the Mass inaugurating the Redemptorist mission of the Manila Vice-Province at Our Lady of Visitation Parish, the Vice-Province's first parish charge, entrusted with the spiritual care of the parish's 24 chapels across Ifugao ethnic villages, two of them raised to quasi-parish status, served by three priests, one brother, and four lay missionaries. After the Mass the chancellor announced the appointment letters and Dimoc personally bestowed the assignments. The piece's direct quotations are Fr. Iyan's, not Dimoc's, so this work is prose-only. A pastoral inauguration, not a Traditionis custodes act.
Bontoc Declaration gathering, Bontoc, June 17-20, 2025
Dimoc, as chair of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Indigenous Peoples, took part in the four-day national Indigenous dialogue at Bontoc, with more than 60 participants from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, which issued the Bontoc Declaration: A Declaration of Stewardship and Sacred Responsibility, asserting the collective role of Indigenous peoples as caretakers of nature and defenders of Indigenous rights. The LiCAS piece gives Dimoc's line as paraphrase, that Indigenous spirituality fosters harmony with the environment, so this work is prose-only. No signed date is claimed for the declaration, since the June 19 signed date rests only on a search-read PDF. A pastoral gathering, not a Traditionis custodes act.
