Witold Mroziewski
Witold Mroziewski was born on March 25, 1966, in Augustow, Poland, to Jan Edmund Mroziewski and Waclawa Jablonska. He studied at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, earning a Master of Theology in 1991, a Master of Canon Law in 2001, and a doctorate in canon law in 2003. Bishop Juliusz Paetz ordained him a priest at the Cathedral of Lomza on June 29, 1991, and after a first assignment as parochial vicar in Kadzidlo, Poland, he was sent in 1992 for pastoral service in Brooklyn to minister to Polish expatriates.
In Brooklyn he was parochial vicar of Our Lady of Czestochowa-Saint Casimir from 1993 to 2000 and pastor of that parish from 2000 to 2013, and since 2013 he has been pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Maspeth, Queens, a parish long home to Polish immigrants. He was incardinated into the Diocese of Brooklyn in 2001 and served the diocesan tribunal as a judge and as defender of the bond, alongside his parish work among the Polish community he had come to America to serve.
Pope Francis appointed him an auxiliary bishop of Brooklyn on May 19, 2015, and he was consecrated on July 20, 2015, holding the titular see of Walla Walla. He has served as vicar for migrant and ethnic apostolates, was named Episcopal Vicar for Queens in March 2022, and on June 24, 2023, Bishop Robert Brennan named him Regional Episcopal Vicar of Brooklyn West, the post he holds alongside his auxiliary episcopate.
No governing act of Mroziewski's own on the 1962 Missal was found. Searching on October 24, 2026, across diocesan news, USCCB material, and reputable reporting returned no authorization, decree, dispensation, or appointment sustaining the older Mass signed by him, and no statement of his on the older liturgy at all. Under the project rules that absence is no_record, not a judgment about his views, and his Polish parish ministry is not treated as evidence about the 1962 Missal.
One trap in the record is noted and set aside. A 2015 report on the two new Brooklyn auxiliaries was headlined as including one who regularly celebrates Mass in the extraordinary form, but its text attributes that celebration to James Massa, not to Mroziewski, and a contemporary diocesan account confirms Massa as the 2005 extraordinary-form coordinator. Nothing in that report attaches extraordinary-form celebration to Mroziewski, and it is not credited to him here.
No site count is asserted for Mroziewski, because an auxiliary holds no see whose sites could be counted as his, and no society, Roman dispensation, or 2026 statement on the Society of St. Pius X of his own was found. The diocese's October 2025 narrowing of its Traditional Latin Masses to two churches is its ordinary Bishop Brennan's act, recorded in the Brooklyn context of his fellow auxiliary's dossier, not Mroziewski's.
