The Life
Gerhard Ludwig Müller, a German theologian, was ordained in 1978 and made Bishop of Regensburg in 2002. In 2012 Benedict XVI appointed him Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Church's guardian of doctrine, a post he held until 2017; he was created a cardinal in 2014.
He oversaw the publication of the collected works of Joseph Ratzinger, of whom he was a close associate. Since leaving the CDF he has become one of the most candid voices warning against doctrinal ambiguity and confusion in the Church.
